One of the first jet engines for aircraft was built and unveiled at Finspong. The engine, christened the “Skuten”, was surpassed after two years intensive development work by the larger and more efficient “Dovern”. However the Swedish government eventually backed out of the project as cheaper engines could be manufactured in England.
